NSW Youth PD Workshop May 2021

May 24th-28th seen our NSW Youth Professional Development Workshop happen. We had five participants from all around NSW travel to Nambucca Heads to take part. The four-day workshop was packed full of training, activities and guest speakers joining in on the fun!

To make the workshop possible, we partnered up with our host for the week, Muurrbay Aboriginal Language & Culture Co-operative. Sharon Edgar-Jones and Micklo Jarrett come back as PD trainers to help deliver the training on the ground, as Ebony Zoomed in throughout the week to deliver training and introduce guest speakers who also Zoomed in to talk to the group.

The guest speakers that joined in to talk about the various types of work they do were Hiroko Shioji (Yawuru Mabu Ngan-ga), Annalee Pope (FLA) and Britt Jacobsen (Aboriginal Languages Trust NSW). These sessions gave participants insight into different language work happening around the country, and what supports are out there for them and other people working on their languages.

Our participants also had the pleasure of going on a cultural and language tour with Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation, at and around Coffs Harbour, which was a nice way to break up the intensive training.

Participants, trainers and our hosts had a great time getting to know each other, sharing experiences, skills and knowledge with one another.

We would love to thank everyone that was involved in helping us deliver this workshop, and most importantly our participants for joining us.
